A Hong Kong-based educational investment firm is teaming up with a Chongqing group to improve schooling in non-first-tier cities on the Chinese mainland.

Hong Kong-based medical and educational investment corporation Super Rise Group and Chongqing Newopen Education Group have announced a long-term cooperation plan to improve education resources.

Super Rise Chairman He Lin said: “We plan to coordinate Columbia University Medical Center’s educational projects on the Chinese mainland as well as other overseas K-12 educational resources – which cover the school system from kindergarten to the 12th grade.

“All of these resources will be integrated into our new collaboration with Newopen Education Group to complement each other's advantages,” Lin told a cooperation agreement signing ceremony.

“This will provide more high-quality international educational products to the general public (on the mainland).”

Both parties are keen to develop real-estate projects and boost the education sector in Zigong – a city in Sichuan province. They also plan a strategic education fund, a buyout fund and a venture capital fund.

Zhou Dengguang, chairman and chief executive of Newopen Education Group, said the company had established “development pattern teaching”. This encouraged research and development; which had boosted production and had helped the city to boom over the past 25 years, explained Zhou.

“The new cooperation initiated by both sides will give students in non-top-tier cities access to high-quality education from Hong Kong and overseas,”he added.

Chongqing Newopen Education Group operates three universities, five high schools, two primary schools and 31 kindergartens. It also manages Rongzhi College of Chongqing Technology and Business University and Chongqing Bachuan International Math and Science School. It has over 30,000 staff and students in Chongqing.

Super Rise owns Hong Kong Rosebud Primary School and Yaumati Kaifong Association School in Hong Kong. It is keen to contribute more to the mainland – where two major branded projects, “China Life and Health Science City” and “International Elite Education and Innovation City” will be launched over the next 10 years.
